Hypnosis: Myth vs. Fact

Many people are confused about what hypnosis really is. Some think it is being put into a trance where you’re made to do things you wouldn’t normally do, like you see on television or hypnosis stage shows. So let’s take a look at what hypnosis really is.

During hypnosis, you are put into a state of deep relaxation. Some call it a hypnotic trance, but at all times you are aware of what is going on around you. You are also in complete control of yourself and cannot be made to do anything you do not want to do. What actually happens is, in this deeply relaxed state, you are able to access your unconscious mind. This is where we store our thoughts, dreams, and all life memories. Our conscious mind is what we use when we are awake and alert. Through Hypnosis you can change negative programmed thoughts you have stored in your unconscious mind.

Some people think they can not be hypnotized, or you can only be hypnotized if you have a weak mind. This is not true. Hypnosis is simply a deep state of relaxation. Having a weak mind has nothing to do with whether or not you can relax and if so how deeply. Almost everyone can be hypnotized if they choose. If you daydream or lose yourself in any kind of activity, you can be hypnotized, as those are very light relaxation states.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to access the subconscious mind to find solutions to problems that the conscious mind is having trouble dealing with. If you have trouble with unhealthy habits, like smoking or overeating, or if you want to cure any phobias you have, or if you just want to feel more relaxed and confident, hypnotherapy can help you achieve your goals.

The mind is basically divided into two parts. The conscious mind is what we use when we are awake and alert. We use it to reason and make decisions. The unconscious mind is where we store our memories, dreams, and thoughts. Under hypnosis, we can easily access the unconscious mind and all the thoughts and information stored there. In essence, the conscious mind is turned off, even though you are aware of your surroundings and in complete control of yourself. You are simply bypassing the thinking and reasoning parts of the conscious mind.

A Hypnotherapist is someone who can induce a safe hypnotic state so that you can access your subconscious mind to achieve your goals.
